Healthcare Innovators Showcase Real-World Outcomes at EGM 2025

July 2, 2025
Attendees demonstrated how they’ve lowered costs, improved the clinician experience, and engaged patients more deeply in their care.

Bristol, UK, July 2, 2025 – At the second annual Epic European Group Meeting (EGM 2025), healthcare leaders highlighted concrete results achieved through the use of health IT, and they shared their work to help peers replicate their successes.

“We’re all on the same journey, but not always on the same path,” said Dr. Peter-Marc Fortune, Paediatric CMIO at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT). “EGM provides an opportunity to bring us all together to showcase & share. Once again this year it’s delivered an opportunity to align and optimise our journeys, and to go back to our trusts ready to establish new collaborations and a head full of ideas to improve & enhance our patients’ care & our colleagues’ experience.”

Example topics and outcomes include:

Higher Coding Volume: MFT captured an additional £4 million of annualised procedure coding volume by standardising specialty-specific documentation and improving coding accuracy. Through this work, they created an interactive Outpatient Procedures Playbook, and they plan to expand this benefit by including additional specialties in the future.

Reduced Clinician Workload: The Royal Marsden embedded charge capture automation directly into the clinical workflow, reducing reliance on manual input. The initiative made clinicians’ workflows more efficient and delivered a 550% increase in charge capture at Royal Marsden.

Better Patient Experience: Amsterdam UMC significantly improved patient access to MyChart through Digipunt, a dedicated help desk located in the hospital’s main atrium. Digipunt provides a welcoming, patient-friendly space to receive real-time support—helping patients use MyChart to communicate with care teams, manage appointments, view test results, and take a more active role in their care. Since its 2020 launch, Digipunt has transformed MyChart adoption at Amsterdam UMC:

  • The average rate of new monthly activations has doubled.
  • Physical desk campaigns in 2022 and 2024 drove a 20% increase in activations during each campaign period.

“The great thing about EGM is we no longer have to reimagine models of care,” said Per David Walliker, CDIO at MFT. “We can see exactly how we are going to do it by learning what others have done already.”

EGM is an annual event that brings together healthcare leaders from across Europe to share best practices and collaborate on improving patient care, clinician workflows, and operational outcomes.
