Making Organ Donor Registration Easier With MyChart

June 5, 2025
Donate Life America collaborates with Epic to simplify lifesaving decisions.

Each day in the U.S., 13 people die waiting for an organ transplant. Although 90% of Americans support organ donation, only about half are registered donors. Common barriers include lack of awareness, assuming registration requires a DMV visit, or simply not being asked.

To address this, Donate Life America collaborated with Epic to integrate donor registration directly into MyChart. This makes it easier for patients to register their decision at moments when they are already engaged with their healthcare—whether reviewing test results, scheduling appointments, or communicating with their providers.

Health systems using Epic can enable this feature to make it part of routine patient engagement. It’s an opportunity to align patient care technology with a national public health need.
