Having fun on their way to surgery helps kids relax

For kids in the hospital, leaving their parents and heading into the OR with strangers can be terrifying. To help make their surgical experience less scary, INTEGRIS Health in Oklahoma City lets kids ride to the OR in remote-controlled cars.

“We are making a huge push trying to get children to have a very comfortable experience moving back to the operating room,” says Dr. Paul Digoy, a pediatric ENT surgeon at INTEGRIS. “[Using the cars] gets them into the operating room in a way that is non-stressful. It makes a huge difference. The only hard part is getting them out of the car.”
