On Digital Health Unplugged, Judy joins host Tammy Lovell to share the story behind Epic—from a basement startup valued at $70,000 to a global leader in healthcare technology. She describes her path from math puzzles and early programming to building software that today helps protect patients from medication errors over 170 million times each year.

Epic has remained privately held and customer-driven, and immersion trips—in which developers spend time alongside clinicians in pharmacies, operating rooms, and exam rooms—continue to shape the company’s products. The conversation also covers AI, including AI Charting to draft clinical notes, Cosmos-powered diagnostic insights drawn from 300 million deidentified patient records, and tools that help patients stay on track with preventive care through MyChart and Care Companion.
