Inside Day 5 of Quebec’s digital health record rollout at Jean-Talon Hospital
May 15, 2026
Five days in, clinicians and patients say centralized digital records are speeding up care and strengthening medication safety.
For anesthesiologist Dr. Katherine Chabot, one of the biggest changes with the new Epic digital health record system is instant access to patient histories that previously required retrieving physical files from the archives. “While I’m doing a surgery, I can already have access and prepare for my next patient,” she said.
Nurse Emmanuel Mamadou Coly appreciates that the system adds a layer of medication safety, scanning each medication against the patient’s digital record and alerting clinicians to potential mismatches.
Patients are noticing the change too. Cécile Bossé, 89, who has been hospitalized for two and a half months, says simply: “The service is faster.”
