Expanding Telehealth During the COVID-19 Pandemic

NYU Langone Health scaled its existing telehealth program during the pandemic to increase urgent video visits by nearly 700% and non-urgent video visits by over 4,300%.

New York City was an early epicenter of COVID-19 in the U.S., reporting a mean of more than 5,000 cases per day by the week of March 29, 2020. NYU Langone Health, which has six hospitals spread across New York City, responded by building upon its foundational, Epic-integrated telehealth capabilities with the support of FCC grants. NYU Langone successfully expanded its virtual health program to include more clinicians, more departments, more visit types, and more patients—resulting in an increase of urgent video visits by nearly 700% and non-urgent video visits by over 4,300% between March 2 and April 14, 2020.
