Spectrum Health reduced the time it takes to prepare for multidisciplinary cancer care conferences by over 60%, saving clinicians an estimated 800 hours per year.

At Spectrum Health, the largest cancer care provider in Western Michigan, 21 different Multidisciplinary cancer care teams (MDTs) meet regularly to review cancer cases selected from the more than 3,000 new cases diagnosed each year. To make it easier for MDT members to review cases efficiently, Spectrum Health implemented a standard scheduling and documentation workflow for each of its MDTs. Spectrum Health reduced the amount of time it takes staff to prepare for MDTs by 62%, from 25 hours per week to 9.5 hours per week, saving a total of over 800 hours each year.

How They Did It:

  • Standardized documentation for conferences to capture information that could affect clinical decisions
  • Automated reporting to the Commission on Cancer, eliminating duplicative manual data entry
