A Strong Scheduling Foundation Sets the Stage for a Convenient Digital Patient Experience

Texas Children's Hospital was able to pivot to virtual care rapidly during the pandemic. In 2021, patients scheduled over 1 million appointments through MyChart, saving an estimated $7 million in staff time.

Leadership at Texas Children’s Hospital envisioned open, convenient online access for patients and their families. Starting in 2017, the organization began increasing capabilities in MyChart and set the stage for nimble adjustments to virtual care in 2020. Last year, there were over 1 million appointments scheduled through MyChart at Texas Children’s, saving an estimated $7 million in staff time. Additionally, patients are seen an average of 27 days sooner with Fast Pass. Today, the organization is among the top in the Epic community for MyChart activation rates and online scheduling.

  • Improved transparency and convenience for patients by expanding use of MyChart
  • Incorporated feedback from patient family advisory council into MyChart design
  • Increased MyChart activation rate through conversations, social media, and marketing
