A Discussion About Curiosity—and the Future of Healthcare AI

February 25, 2026
On AI Grand Rounds, Epic’s Seth Hain discusses Curiosity, a family of new generative AI models set to transform how clinicians predict and manage patient outcomes.

Healthcare organizations around the world have adopted Epic AI. Curiosity, a new family of generative AI models, builds on that momentum.

The models are trained on Cosmos, a dataset of more than 300 million deidentified patient records. They learn from structured medical events like diagnoses, medications, and lab results to predict what may come next in a patient’s medical journey. Hain points to a future where Curiosity supports use cases from chronic disease management to differential diagnosis to hospital operations.

Curiosity will be available to the Cosmos research community beginning this month, along with visualization tools that let researchers explore projected patient trajectories.

Hain also discusses Epic’s role in the broader healthcare ecosystem, noting that devices, diagnostics, and therapeutics play essential roles. Through Epic’s healthcare network capabilities like Aura, those innovations connect back into the clinician’s workflow to inform care.
