UCHealth Shares Provider Notes with Patients Enterprise-Wide

February 13, 2017
First organization in the country to share inpatient notes with patients

UCHealth is one of a growing number of healthcare organizations that share provider notes with patients as part of the OpenNotes initiative. But unlike most OpenNotes participants, UCHealth shares notes from almost all departments—including inpatient units—with patients, making UCHealth the most comprehensive OpenNotes adopter to date. UCHealth shares notes from all medical and surgical specialties, primary care practices, and hospital discharges with patients through MyChart. Soon, two of UCHealth’s eight psychiatry practices will join that list. UCHealth plans to evaluate patient and provider feedback on sharing mental health notes before deciding whether to roll out OpenNotes to the remaining six practices.

Nationwide, 45 organizations share notes with more than 12 million patients, and Epic organizations account for 62% of participating organizations.
