How NHS Trusts Eliminated 96,000 Unnecessary Laboratory Tests in One Year, Saving Millions and Decreasing Carbon Emissions

Three NHS trusts built clinical guidelines into Epic to reduce unnecessary testing and clinical waste. Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust estimates that it avoids more than 20,000 coagulation tests and prevents 3.5 tons of carbon emissions annually in one emergency room. Guy’s and St. Thomas’ and King’s College NHS Foundation Trusts collectively saved £4 million in two years by decreasing unnecessary lab tests.
