Edward Hospital Reduces Surgical Site Infections After Colon Surgery by 74%

Using Epic’s Infection Control module to minimize manual review of surgical cases

Automated reports and improved workflows with Epic’s Infection Control module are giving infection preventionists at Edward Hospital more hours to spend on infection prevention projects. Thanks to their efforts, Edward Hospital saw the following infection improvements last year:

  • 74% reduction in surgical site infection (SSI) after colon surgery
  • 67% reduction in central line-associated bloodstream infection (CLABSI)
  • 32% reduction in catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTI)
  • 23% reduction in hospital onset difficile infection
