March 6, 2017
Using Epic to make information more accessible and improve care

CHIME and HIMSS have awarded the 2016 John E. Gall, Jr. CIO of the Year designation to Pamela Arora, the CIO of Children’s Health in Dallas. During Arora’s tenure, Children’s has:
- Extended its instance of Epic to 88 physician practices in the Dallas/Fort Worth area through the Community Connect program.
- Exchanged 1.9 million records in 2016 with Epic and non-Epic organizations in other states through Care Everywhere.
- Extended a telemedicine program to nearly 100 schools for virtual consultations.
- Helped small practices protect themselves from cyber threats with HITRUST CyberAid, a cybersecurity program designed for practices with fewer than 75 employees.
According to CHIME president Russell Branzell, “Pamela Arora continues to push the envelope of what it means to be a CIO. Time and time again, she shows how we can use health IT to not only support an organization’s overall strategy, but truly transform patient care across the entire continuum.”
