Epic convenes second Epic Data Science Forum

Epic’s Data Science Forum in May brought more than 50 experts from the Epic data science community together in Verona for a day-long discussion focused on sharing current and emerging uses of machine learning embedded in workflows to drive outcomes.

The event kicked off with a keynote address by the University of Wisconsin-Madison that surveyed the landscape of its efforts toward building EHR-embedded machine learning models that improve patient care.

Other presentations included Ochsner Health System with a look at how it reduced cardiac arrests by 44% with its patient deterioration machine learning model that uses Epic’s cloud platform. Penn Medicine also provided an overview on how the success of a machine learning project is dependent on clinical, business, and machine learning experts working together from the moment the idea is hatched to ensure the project will provide value to the organization.

Experts from NYU Langone Medical Center, Duke University Health System, Medical University of South Carolina, NorthShore University Health System, and Epic also shared machine learning insights with attendees.

Members of the Epic community can reach out to Owen Sizemore if interested in attending the next event.
