Connected MOM: Taking an Innovative Approach to Prenatal Care with Digital Home Monitoring
July 11, 2022
By offering digital monitors to expecting parents, Ochsner Health’s Connected MOM program makes prenatal care more convenient, reducing the average number of in-person visits from 14 to 11.
Ochsner Health System has taken an innovative approach to prenatal care with its Connected Maternity Online Monitoring (MOM) program, which offers expecting parents smart devices to monitor these key indicators of health from home. Ochsner provides parents-to-be with Bluetooth-enabled blood pressure cuffs and scales so they can digitally share their readings with their care team, reducing the average number of in-person prenatal visits for a healthy pregnancy from 14 to around 11. The more-frequent at-home monitoring could also help identify gestational hypertension and preeclampsia earlier, helping providers intervene sooner to improve birth outcomes for both birthing parents and babies.
