Study Shows that Epic Can Boost Patient Participation in Cardiac Rehab Programs
University of Vermont finds that Epic-driven enrollment could save 25,000 lives and prevent 180,000 hospitalizations annually
Cardiac rehabilitation programs are proven to increase longevity and reduce hospitalization for patients who have experienced a cardiac event. Despite the effectiveness, only about 20% of eligible patients currently participate in these programs.
According to a study by the University of Vermont and other Epic community members, using Epic to automate referrals can help organizations reach program referral rates of 86% and participation rates of over 70%. Such rates would save 25,000 lives and prevent 180,000 hospitalizations in the United States each year, according to researchers.
