The typical American household with four family members covered under an employer-sponsored health plan will cost $25,826 to insure this year – that’s more than triple the $8,414 it cost in 2001. The burden of costs that patients carry is also up 5.3% from a year ago, while employer costs are up 4.2%. The good news is that annual rates of cost increase are declining dramatically, which should help keep cost increases at a sustainable level in the near future.
